Sony Ericsson Jalou: A Little Pretentious

Oversized Gemstone

People all know that women like fashion. They like to look elegant and to look classy. Yes, these are true, but do they really need a mobile phone that looks like an oversized gemstone?

The Sony Ericsson Jalou is a mobile phone for women that appear to be designed to look like a huge precious stone. But the question is, do women really want to appear like they carry around a big, yet obviously fake, gemstone? Yes, it might appear marginally classy, and the novelty factor should start a few conversations but after a while, surely women will start to feel the itch and realize that they should have opted for a nice simple and more functional Iphone.

Once the novelty is lost, all women will have is a gem phone that does not really look good. The Jalou might be considered classy at first but flaunting your riches in a time of a recession is definitely tacky.

Other Pretensions

The Jalou is packed full of features that will make any sane woman feel a little pretentious by simply having the mobile phone. First, the 2'-inch screen (240 x 320 pixels) becomes a small mirror in a flick of a button. Some women might find this useful but since majority of woman also carry face powders and hand mirrors in the purses, this is simply a superficial feature that only the most vain will appreciate.

This mobile phone also comes with keypad buttons that are illuminated by a white light and are cut in the design of a diamond, giving the appearance of gemstone buttons. Sure, this type of feature might be seen as cute, and even desirable for little girls who dreams of being a princess. But for the workingwoman of today's modern society, this might even be seen as an insult, giving the impression that women simply need diamonds to feel fulfilled.

Saving Grace

Thankfully for the new Sony Ericsson fashion phone, it does come with a decent amount of features that somewhat compensate for its pretentious design. It has a 3.2-megapixel camera that comes with a 3.2-times digital zoom, a photo feeds application, video light, and video recording capabilities. It also comes with Bluetooth 2.0, an FM Radio, music playback, and fairly extensive communication features (speaker phone, video calling / conference calls, IM, MMS and SMS).

The Jalou is a fairly decent mobile phone. If you don't mind looking a little silly or enjoy a little pretentiousness now and again, this might be the phone for you.
